“Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.”
Albert Schweitzer
I think far to many of us either strive to be somebody else or fail to appreciate who we are. It is especially troubling for me to see young people struggle to fit into a mold that has been designed by others but that often holds little personal happiness.
No matter how old or young we are we benefit from learning more about ourselves and the value of our uniqueness. Life offers each of us the opportunity to be the best us instead trying to be the best someone else.
Here is a piece that has been around for some time. I wish it was mandatory reading for every young person that is beginning their adulthood.
Steps to Happiness
Everybody Knows:
You can’t be all things to all people.
You can’t do all things at once.
You can’t do all things equally well.
You can’t do all things better than everyone else.
Your humanity is showing just like everyone else’s.
So:
You have to find out who you are, and be that.
You have to decide what comes first, and do that.
You have to discover your strengths, and use them.
You have to learn not to compete with others,
Because no one else is in the contest of *being you*.
Then:
You will have learned to accept your own uniqueness.
You will have learned to set priorities and make decisions.
You will have learned to live with your limitations.
You will have learned to give yourself the respect that is due.
And you’ll be a most vital mortal.
Dare to Believe:
That you are a wonderful, unique person.
That you are a once-in-all-history event.
That it’s more than a right, it’s your duty, to be who you are.
That life is not a problem to solve, but a gift to cherish.
And we’ll be able to stay one up on what used to get us.
May God Bless you and keep you safe,
Father Pat

“I bought my brother some gift-wrap for Christmas. I took it to the Gift Wrap department and told them to wrap it, but in a different print so he would know when to stop unwrapping.

A out-of-towner in New York at the height of the tourist season decided to revisit an uptown restaurant he’d enjoyed on a previous trip to the city.
Finally catching the eye of an overworked waiter, he said, “You know, it’s been over five years since I first came in here.”
“You’ll have to wait your turn, sir,” replied the harried waiter. “I can only serve one table at a time.”

Why is it that people say they “slept like a baby” when babies wake up like every two hours?

You may have noticed the increased amount of notices for you to notice. Some of our notices have not been noticed. This is very noticeable. It has been noticed that the responses to the notices have been noticeably unnoticed. This notice is to remind you to notice the notices and respond to the notices, because we do not want the notices to go unnoticed.

I don’t think you can feel a sense of entitlement and still be happy. Happiness always comes from feeling that you’ve been blessed.
