The road of life twists and turns and no two directions are ever the same. Yet our lessons come from the journey, not the destination.

When we had lunch with friends the other day our conversation drifted to a discussion of our personal histories. I found I was not alone in ending up with a life and career much different than I would have predicted when I was young.

In my case I would not change a thing, even the times that seemed troubling. My years in a boarding school for kids from broken homes taught me to be flexible and developed my coping skills. Leaving high school at 15 to pursue an education in electronics and working to pay my tuition laid the foundation for my successes in the navy and the computer industry. My tour in the navy allowed me to meet and marry my life long companion.

After more than thirty years in computers where I held a wide variety of positions, I retired and wound up doing some good working for Kiwanis International on their first global humanitarian project.

The bottom line was if you are flexible and willing, life can to take you to places you never thought possible. Like in the following story it is our difficulties that help us sharpen or abilities and lay the foundation for our tomorrows.

THE MARBLE STATUE

In the middle of a beautiful city, there was a museum laid with beautiful marble tiles and with a huge marble statue as a part of the display.  Many people from all over the world visited the museum every day and admired the beautifully crafted statue. One night, the marble tiles started talking to the marble statue.

Marble Tiles: Hey statue, Don’t you think that it is just not fair that everybody from all over the world come all the way here to admire you while ignoring and stepping on me.

Marble Statue: My dear brother, marble tile, Don’t you remember we are actually from the same cave.

Marble Tile: Yes! I do, that is why i feel it is even more unfair. Both of us were born from the same cave and yet the world treats us so differently now. This is so unfair!

Marble Statue: Yes you are right my brother. But, do you still remember the day when the sculptor tried to work on you but you resisted his tools.

Marble Tiles: Yes, I despise that guy. How could he use those nasty tools on me.

Marble Statue: Well, Since you resisted his tools he couldn’t work on you. When he decided to give up on you, he started working on me instead. I knew at once that i would be something different and unique after his efforts. I bore all the painful tools he used on me and allowed him craft me as he wanted!

Marble Tiles: But those tools were so painful.

Marble Statue: My brother, there is a price for everything in life. Since, you decided to resist and gave up half way, you can’t blame anybody who steps on you now.!

The marble tiles silently listened to his brother’s words. and started to reflect on it.

Moral: The harder the knocks you go through in life, the more you learn and put them to use in the future! Do not be discouraged by setbacks and failures! Keep trying to be better.

I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I intended to be.

A man was seen fleeing down the hall of the hospital just before his operation.  “What’s the matter?” he was asked by an orderly.

He said, “I heard the nurse say, ‘It’s a very simple operation, don’t worry, I’m sure it will be all right.'”

“She was just trying to comfort you, what’s so frightening about that, sir?”

“She wasn’t talking to me.  She was talking to the doctor!”

The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather in a lack of will.

Computer Tips You Should Always Remember:

When operating a computer, whatever happens, behave as though you meant for it to happen.

When you reach the point where you really understand your computer, it’s probably obsolete.

When the going gets tough, upgrade.

For every action, there is an equal and opposite malfunction.

To err is human . . . to blame your computer for your mistakes is even more human, it is downright natural.

He who laughs last probably made a back-up.

A complex system that does not work is invariably found to have evolved from a simpler system that worked just fine.

The number one cause of computer problems is computer solutions.

A computer program will always do what you tell it to do, but not necessarily what you intended it to do

The golf pro says they do, and they are $1.00.

She said: Male menopause is a lot more fun than female menopause.

With female menopause you gain weight and get hot flashes.

Male menopause – you get to date young girls and drive motorcycles.
