Happy?

If you want to be happy, be.

! I-wish-you-a-happy-life

For a number of reasons I was thinking about my children, grandchildren and my great-grandson and ended up again realizing that my overwhelming desire if for them to have happy lives. There is just no substitute for having the ability to enjoy our lives.

I think to a large extent happiness comes easiest for those who are willing to let happiness into their lives. It comes from placing value on what we have rather than on what we don’t have. Happy people seem to find it easy to trust and love others, including themselves. They seem to have the ability to see what is right in life without spending too much time agonizing over what is wrong.

So my friends as I wish my children happy lives I also hope you will find the happiness you deserve. Here is something I have always liked and I think it is a good day to share it with you.

Steps to Happiness

Everybody Knows:

You can’t be all things to all people.

You can’t do all things at once.

You can’t do all things equally well.

You can’t do all things better than everyone else.

Your humanity is showing just like everyone else’s.

So:

You have to find out who you are, and be that.

You have to decide what comes first, and do that.

You have to discover your strengths, and use them.

You have to learn not to compete with others,

Because no one else is in the contest of *being you*.

Then:

You will have learned to accept your own uniqueness.

You will have learned to set priorities and make decisions.

You will have learned to live with your limitations.

You will have learned to give yourself the respect that is due.

And you’ll be a most vital mortal.

Dare To Believe: That you are a wonderful, unique person.

That you are a once-in-all-history event.

That it’s more than a right, it’s your duty, to be who you are.

That life is not a problem to solve, but a gift to cherish.

And we’ll be able to stay one up on what used to get us.

May God Bless you and keep you safe,

Father Pat

After being laid off from five different jobs in four months, my Uncle Joe was hired by a warehouse. One day he lost control of a forklift and drove it off the loading dock.

Surveying the damage, the owner shook his head and said he’d have to withhold 10 percent of Uncle Joe’s wages to pay for the repairs.

“How much will it cost?” asked my uncle.

“About $4,500,” said the owner.

“What a relief!” exclaimed Uncle Joe. “I’ve finally got job security!”

A patient at the dental office where I was a receptionist stopped by my desk to pay her bill.

She began rummaging through her purse, as so many patients did when they had a check to write.

“Do you need a pen”? I asked, offering her the use of mine.

“Yes, thank you,” she replied. She took it, put it in her handbag and proceeded to pay in cash.

Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude.
