Your belief determines your action and your action determines your results, but first you have to believe.

I am off on another whirlwind day. Of course I’ll start with about an hour of exercise at my new home away from home, my local YMCA. Then I’ll get a quick bite of breakfast before I go vote in our statewide primary elections. I am really glad to get this behind me for our state was chosen to be the battleground between Super Pacs, it is distressing to watch outside money drown out the normal communications channels as they feed voters primarily slur, slander, falsehoods via unbelievably negative adds. I told some friends that if this keeps up and the public gets little solid information and only hears high cost screamers we will not need elections when can just have auctions.
At least the pain will lay the foundation for an hour or so of high cost dental work after which I will attend a lunch meeting where I hope I not to slobber much as my dental pain killers wear off
I was thinking yesterday that one of the advantages of my misspent life where I did not sleep enough, drank too much, smoked too much and avoided all exercise is what is happening to me now. Most folks get aches, pains and creaky bones as they age, look at me with my new life style I actually feel younger every day. Like the guy once said “In every adverse situation there is a complimentary opportunity”. I also like the idea that I am learning I can do things I never thought I could. As I always knew, the more you do things the more you end up believing in yourself.
Here is some advice that someone wrote that I copied awhile back. It works for me I hope it will for you too.
Believe in Yourself
There may be days when you get up in the morning and things aren’t the way you had hoped they would be. That’s when you have to tell yourself that things will get better. There are times when people disappoint you and let you down. But those are the times when you must remind yourself to trust your own judgments and opinions, to keep your life focused on believing in yourself.
There will be challenges to face and changes to make in your life, and it is up to you to accept them. Constantly keep yourself headed in the right direction for you. It may not be easy at times, but in those times of struggle you will find a stronger sense of who you are.
So when the days come that are filled with frustration and unexpected responsibilities, remember to believe in yourself and all you want your life to be. Because the challenges and changes will only help you to find the goals that you know are meant to come true for you.
Keep Believing in Yourself!
It’s not who you are that holds you back, it’s who you think you’re not.
A Jewish father was concerned about his son who was about a year away from his Bar Mitzvah but was sorely lacking in his knowledge of the Jewish faith. To remedy this, he sent his son to Israel to experience his heritage. A year later the young man returned home.
“Father, thank you for sending me to the land of our Fathers,” the son said. “It was wonderful and enlightening, however, I must confess that while in Israel I converted to Christianity.”
“Oi vey,” replied the father, “what have I done.” So in the tradition of the patriarchs, he went to his best friend and sought his advice and solace.
“It is amazing that you should come to me,” stated his friend, “I too sent my son to Israel and he returned a Christian.”
So in the tradition of the patriarchs they went to the Rabbi. “It is amazing that you should come to me,” stated the Rabbi, “I too sent my son to Israel and he returned a Christian. What is happening to our sons?”
“Brothers, we must take this to the Lord,” said the Rabbi.
They fell to their knees and began to wail and pour out their hearts to the Almighty. As they prayed the clouds opened and a mighty voice stated, “Amazing that you should come to Me. I, too, sent My Son to Israel…”
Question: Why don’t retirees mind being called Seniors?
Answer: The term comes with a 10% percent discount.
He: I have a complaint, dear.
She: What is it, darling?
He: We’ve been married twenty-five years and you still correct me every time I open my mouth, dear.
She: Twenty-six years, darling.
People will believe anything if you whisper it.
Tower: “United 702, cleared for takeoff, contact departure on 124.7.”
United 702: “Tower, United 702 switching to departure …by the way, after we lifted off, we saw some kind of dead animal on the far end of the runway.”
Tower: “Continental 635, cleared for takeoff. Contact departure on 124.7; did you copy the report from United?”
Continental 635: “Continental 635, cleared for takeoff, roger; and yes, we copied United. We’ve already notified our caterers.”
If you don’t have a sense of humor, you probably don’t have any sense at all.
The minister gave his Sunday morning service, as usual, but this particular Sunday, it was considerably longer than normal. Later, at the door, shaking hands with parishioners as they filed out, one man said,
“Your sermon, Pastor, was simply wonderful – so invigorating and inspiring and refreshing.”
The minister of course, broke out in a big smile, only to hear the man add, “Why I felt like a new man when I woke up!”
I wonder how long I would be on hold if my call WASN’T important to them?
Morris realized he needed to purchase a hearing aid, but he felt unwilling to spend much money. “How much do they cost?” he asked the salesperson.
“That depends,” he said. “They run from $2.00 to $2,000.”
“Let’s see the $2.00 model,” said Morris the miser.
The salesperson put the device around Morris’ neck. “You just stick this button in your ear and run this little string down to your pocket,” he instructed.
“How does it work?” , asked Morris.
“For $2.00 it doesn’t work,” the salesperson replied. “But when people see it on you, they’ll talk louder.”
Don’t wait until everything is just right. It will never be perfect. There will always be challenges, obstacles and less than perfect conditions. So what. Get started now. With each step you take, you will grow stronger and stronger, more and more skilled, more and more self-confident and more and more successful.
